Accessibility Statement

Our commitment to making UK JornoHub accessible to everyone.

Statement date: March 2026

Our Commitment

UK JornoHub is committed to ensuring digital accessibility for people of all abilities. We aim to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at Level AA. These guidelines explain how to make web content more accessible to people with a wide range of disabilities, including visual, auditory, physical, speech, cognitive, language, learning, and neurological disabilities.

Accessibility is not an afterthought for us — it is integral to how we design, build, and maintain our site. We believe every journalist should be able to access our resources regardless of ability.

Accessibility Features

We have implemented the following accessibility features across the site:

  • Keyboard Navigation

All interactive elements, including links, buttons, forms, and menus, are fully navigable using a keyboard alone. Tab order follows a logical reading sequence.

  • Skip-to-Content Link

A "skip to main content" link is provided at the top of every page, allowing keyboard and screen reader users to bypass repetitive navigation.

  • Semantic HTML

We use proper HTML5 semantic elements (header, nav, main, article, section, footer) to convey document structure to assistive technologies.

  • ARIA Labels

Where native HTML semantics are insufficient, we use ARIA attributes (aria-label, aria-describedby, aria-expanded, etc.) to provide additional context for screen readers.

  • Colour Contrast

All text meets WCAG 2.1 AA contrast ratio requirements (minimum 4.5:1 for normal text, 3:1 for large text) in both light and dark modes.

  • Responsive Design

The site is fully responsive and functional across all screen sizes, from mobile devices to large desktop monitors. Content reflows without horizontal scrolling at up to 400% zoom.

  • Dark Mode

A dark colour scheme is available that respects your system preferences. Both modes maintain adequate contrast ratios and readability.

  • Focus Indicators

All interactive elements display visible focus indicators when navigated via keyboard, meeting WCAG 2.1 AA requirements for focus visibility.

  • Form Labels

All form inputs have associated labels, clear placeholder text, and descriptive error messages to assist users of screen readers and other assistive technologies.

Known Limitations

While we strive for full accessibility, we are aware of the following limitations and are actively working to address them:

  • Third-party embeds: Some third-party content or widgets embedded on our site may not fully conform to WCAG 2.1 AA. We endeavour to choose accessible third-party tools and provide alternative access where possible.
  • PDF documents: Older downloadable templates may not be fully accessible. We are progressively updating all documents to meet accessibility standards. If you need an accessible version of any resource, please contact us and we will provide one.

Assistive Technologies Tested

We have tested UK JornoHub with the following assistive technologies:

  • Screen readers: NVDA (Windows), VoiceOver (macOS and iOS), TalkBack (Android)
  • Browsers: Chrome, Firefox, Safari, and Edge (latest versions)
  • Tools: axe DevTools, Lighthouse accessibility audit, WAVE Web Accessibility Evaluation Tool
  • Keyboard-only navigation: Tested across all pages and interactive components
